Multi-display monitors are becoming more and more common.  People really enjoy the added functionality from having two screens to use.  The immediate issue that you will notice is that the wallpaper displays the same image on both screens. How would you like to have different backgrounds on each monitor?  Here’s how to do it.

Go to Display Properties, click Customize Desktop, and then the Web tab:

Click the New button, and you’ll be presented with a dialog prompting you to select either a webpage or wallpaper. You can use a web site in XP, but that functionality is not available in Vista.

Drag the titlebar of the image over to the monitor you want to cover with the wallpaper, and then click that Maximize button. The wallpaper will now cover that window.

Next, you will want to right-click on the desktop, and choose Lock Web Items on Desktop.  This will prevent the image from being moved accidentally.

You can actually do this with multiple monitors, meaning you’re not limited to two.  You can have an almost infinite number of monitors and desktop background combinations.
