EasyUbuntu is an easy to use script that gives the Ubuntu user the most commonly requested apps, codecs, and tweaks that are not found in the base distribution. EasyUbuntu works on (X/K)ubuntu and on all the three architectures (x86, AMD64 and PPC).

If you are an Ubuntu user who wants to play mp3s, rip DVDs, or play Tux Racer at more than 3 frames per second, then yes, welcome to Ubuntu bliss!  I have installed it and I couldn’t believe how easy it was.  This is perfect for a person who has had it with their Genuine Advantage Notification but is scared of Linux!

You can choose which packages are installed, EasyUbuntu will not force you to do anything you don’t want. Easy Ubuntu is easy, graphical and “safe” according to the distro page;

  • All the modified files are backed up.
  • Unless you ask for it, your sources.list is not modified.
  • EasyUbuntu can be translated into your language
  • Runs on Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu without installing additional software.

You can download EasyUbuntu here and try it for yourself!

    My problem with Linux is that there are no drivers to run my Logitech webcam or my Hawking wireless USB adapter. If this Distro can use Windows plugins for Flash, Java, 7-Zip, etc., why not my manufacturer supplied peripheral drivers? Then I would jump off the Windows wagon in a heartbeat.

    Multimedia Support

    7.04 has gstreamer package options that finally rivals that of the xine backend. I have yet to find something I couldn’t play. And codecs are installed as you go.

    Web Support

    These elements are already very easy to install as you come across them.

    Archives Support

    With the exception of some functionality missing from the built in RAR, these items are already supported by Archive Manager right?

    System Stuff

    Changing repositories is also easy, and I believe MS fonts are installed by default now. 3D drivers are one click. The only thing here not straight forward would be enabling DMA.

    Voice Over IP

    Good options here, but I think both are in the Universe repos.

    I guess what I am saying is that 7.04 seems to obsolete a lot of this tedious work of configuring a new distribution.
